Hi Everyone,
After our friend Pete Fornatale passed away in 2012 I was granted unique access to Pete's vast archive of the MANY recordings that were made during his 45+ year career on New York radio. Pete's career began in 1964 at WFUV Radio, and it has blown my mind to hear some of the interveiws that he did at that stage of his career. He moved on to WNEW, WXRK, and finally, he rerturned to WFUV where he hosted 'Mixed Bag' every Sunday night until his untimely passing.
Copies of some of the material from his collection has been admitted over the years into the Museum of Radio and Television in NYC, and some of it is co-owned by the producer of Pete's 'Mixed Bag Radio' syndicated show.
The material here is all Beatles related. Some of it features the uncut (hence, un-aired) versions of Pete's interviews. Some are from CDs of Pete's aired shows. And two tracks are NOT of Pete's origin, but were part of his collected archive.
The second track includes audio segments from John and Yoko's 1980 Playboy Magazine interview. I don't recall ever hearing this material, or seeing it listed anywhere.
The tracks in the current folder are:
01 Pete Fornatale with Harry Nilsson 1984 - Unaired, unedited version from cassette source
02 Playboy interview segments with John Lennon and Yoko Ono 1980
03 Derek Taylor interview with Pete Fornatale 1987-08-09
04 George Martin interview with Pete Fornatale 1987 (music edited out)
05 McCartney Open End Interview - Unknown source, but segments were used in The Lost Lennon Tapes (1989?)
06 Ringo Starr with Pete Fornatale 1992 Jones Beach for K-Rock
(Be warned ... Ringo is a bit 'difficult' here, actually. And he seems to think that classic rock station K-Rock is a Top 40 fornat.)
The goal is to keep Pete's name and legacy alive. We hope you all enjoy it!
